Critical Social Justice Scale

What does the CSJAS measure?

The CSJAS measures agreement with key tenets of critical social justice theory—often referred to as “wokeness”—including beliefs about systemic racism, privilege, microaggressions, and group identity.

How is the CSJAS scored?

Respondents rate seven statements on a 4-point Likert scale (0 = completely disagree to 3 = completely agree). Three items are reverse scored. The final score is the mean of all seven items, ranging from 0 (low endorsement) to 3 (high endorsement) of critical social justice attitudes.

How should I interpret my score?

Higher scores indicate stronger agreement with critical social justice (“woke”) beliefs. Women and non-binary respondents typically score higher than men. The scale is continuous, not a pass/fail or diagnostic test.
