The Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) is a brief, 5-item self-report instrument designed to measure global cognitive judgments of one’s satisfaction with life as a whole. It was developed by Ed Diener, Robert A. Emmons, Randy J. Larsen, and Sharon Griffin, and first published in 1985 in the Journal of Personality Assessment.
