Free AI Compliance Cost Estimator

Get a quick, itemised sense of what AI compliance could cost your organisation before you build a budget. Pick your size, how many AI systems you run, and the frameworks in scope, and see a low-high cost range for assessment, tooling, documentation, governance, and audit. The estimate follows a fixed set of rules, and everything is calculated locally in your browser, so nothing you enter is sent to a server. Free, no sign-up, copy the result in one click.

The short answer

For most small and mid-size organisations, a first year of AI compliance tends to land somewhere in the low tens of thousands of dollars, and larger organisations with many AI systems and an external audit can run several times higher. The single biggest drivers are your organisation size, how many AI systems fall in scope, and how many frameworks you have to satisfy at once. Set those below and you get an itemised range in a second. This is an indicative ballpark, not a quote: real costs vary widely by scope, region, and provider, so use the number to start a budget conversation, then get real quotes.

Your scope

Count the models or AI-powered systems you would need to assess and document.

Frameworks in scope

Each framework you add increases the documentation line, because overlapping controls still have to be written and maintained. At least one is always counted.

External assessment

An independent assessment or certificate is optional, and it is the single most variable line, so leave it out if you are not pursuing one yet.

How the AI compliance cost estimator works

Three steps, and it runs in your browser.

1

Describe your scope

Pick your organisation size, how many AI systems you run, and which frameworks are in scope, then choose whether to include an external audit.

2

See the itemised ballpark

The tool applies a fixed set of rules to a base cost band for each line of work and shows a low-high range per line, plus an overall total that updates as you change any input.

3

Copy and validate

Copy the estimate to share it with your team. Everything is calculated locally in your browser and never sent to any server, and the figures are a starting point, not a quote.

Free, private, and honest about what it is

Most compliance cost calculators want your email and your company details before they show you a number, and the number they show is often a lead for a sales call. This one asks for nothing. There is no AI model and no API call behind it: the figures come from a fixed set of rules applied to base cost bands, and the arithmetic happens on your machine.

01

100% in your browser

Your inputs are turned into an estimate locally. Nothing you enter is sent to a server, which is why you can use it while your AI programme is still confidential.

02

No account required

No sign-up, no email wall, and no sales follow-up. You copy the estimate and leave.

03

Arithmetic you can check

The same inputs always produce the same figures. The rules are written out below so you can sanity-check the math yourself.

How the numbers are worked out

The model is deterministic and documented, so you can pressure-test it against your own quotes:

  1. Each line starts from a base low-high cost band drawn from typical published ranges for that kind of work.
  2. Your organisation size multiplies most lines: 1.0 for a startup, 1.8 for an SMB, 3.0 for mid-market, and 5.0 for enterprise.
  3. The number of AI systems in scope multiplies the assessment and the tooling lines: 1.0 for 1-2 systems, 1.3 for 3-5, 1.7 for 6-10, and 2.2 for 10 or more.
  4. The documentation line is multiplied by how many frameworks you selected, because each one adds overlapping records and evidence to write and maintain.
  5. The optional external audit line appears only when you tick it, and is scaled by your size.
  6. Every figure is rounded to the nearest hundred and shown as a low-high range, because a single number would imply a precision this model does not have.

What each line covers

  1. Assessment and gap analysis: mapping your AI systems, classifying risk, and finding the gaps against your chosen frameworks. Largely one-time.
  2. Tooling and monitoring: the annual cost of software to log, monitor, and evidence your AI systems.
  3. Documentation and policies: writing the policies, records, and technical documentation each framework expects. Largely one-time.
  4. Ongoing governance: the annual cost of running the programme, including reviews, committee time, training, and upkeep.
  5. External audit or certification: the annual fee for an independent assessment or certificate, shown only when you include it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the AI compliance cost estimator and what does it do?

It gives you an indicative, itemised ballpark of what building and running AI compliance could cost your organisation. Pick your organisation size, how many AI systems you run, and which frameworks are in scope, and the tool returns a low-high cost band for each line of work: assessment and gap analysis, tooling and monitoring, documentation and policies, ongoing governance, and, if you want it, external audit or certification. It is a rule-based calculator, not an AI model or a quote: the same inputs always produce the same figures.

How accurate is the estimate?

Treat it as a ballpark to start a budget conversation, not a quote. The figures come from simple published-style rules that scale a set of base cost bands by your organisation size, the number of AI systems in scope, and how many frameworks you selected. Real costs vary widely by region, by how much work you do in-house versus with a consultancy, by the maturity of your existing data governance, and by the specific auditor or certification body you choose. Two organisations with identical inputs can spend very differently, so use the range as a sanity check and get real quotes before committing a budget.

What happens to the data I enter?

Nothing is sent anywhere. This tool makes no API calls and does no AI processing: the estimate is calculated entirely in your browser using a fixed set of rules, and none of your inputs ever reach a server. That is why there is no sign-up and why you can use it while your AI programme is still confidential.

Which frameworks does it cover?

You can include any combination of the EU AI Act, ISO/IEC 42001, the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, and GDPR. Each framework you add increases the documentation and policy line, because more frameworks mean more overlapping controls, records, and evidence to write and maintain. The other lines are driven mainly by your size and the number of AI systems in scope.

What is included in each cost line?

Assessment and gap analysis covers mapping your AI systems, classifying risk, and finding the gaps against the frameworks you chose. Tooling and monitoring is the annual cost of the software you use to log, monitor, and evidence your AI systems. Documentation and policies is writing the policies, records, and technical documentation each framework expects. Ongoing governance is the annual cost of running the programme: reviews, committee time, training, and upkeep. External audit or certification, which is optional, is the fee for an independent assessment or certificate. The tooling, governance, and audit lines are recurring; assessment and documentation are largely one-time.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is completely free and needs no account. There is no sign-up, no email wall, and no paywall. You get the full itemised estimate on screen and can copy it to your clipboard with one click.
