What is anonymous peer review?
Anonymous peer review is a form of peer review in which the reviewers' identities are not known to the authors. This can be done either by using a blind review process, in which the reviewers' names are not known to the authors or by using a double-blind review process, in which neither the reviewers' nor the authors' names are known to each other.
Why is anonymous peer review used?
There are several reasons why anonymous peer review might be used. One reason is to try to reduce bias in the review process. When reviewers know who the authors are, they may be more likely to either give them the benefit of the doubt or be more critical of their work. If reviewers don't know who the authors are, they may be more likely to judge the work on its own merits.
How does anonymous peer review work?
In general, the authors of a paper will submit it to a journal without their names attached. The journal will then send the paper out to reviewers, also without the authors' names attached. The reviewers will provide feedback to the journal, which will then pass that feedback on to the authors. The authors can then revise their paper based on the reviewers' feedback and resubmit it to the journal.
