Transnational threats to UK-based journalists

RSF is conducting this research to understand the experiences of UK-based journalists and associated media personnel who report on Iran, China and Hong Kong. The aim is to document any threats, intimidation or harassment you may have encountered because of your work, whether from identifiable or unidentifiable sources (e.g. authorities, proxies, political groups, and others).

Your participation in this survey is completely anonymous and will require around 15 minutes of your time. It covers aspects such as online and offline threats, the impact of any threats or harassment on your work, any measures taken to mitigate risks, and the response from police and other authorities.

By sharing your insights, you will contribute to a better understanding of the challenges journalists reporting on these countries face, and help us recommend ways to enhance the safety of journalists in the UK. We would greatly appreciate it if you could share the survey with any UK-based colleagues who also cover these geographical zones.

The survey automatically saves partial answers on your browser, allowing you to continue later by reopening the form. If you are open to a possible follow-up interview, kindly provide us with a contact. For any inquiries about the survey, please reach out to Regina Chung <[email protected]>

Thank you very much for your valuable input and contribution to this research.
